Road Trip

I have been out of pocket for a while so this may be a long post.
Just got back to the Bay Area yesterday evening from my 4 day road trip sadly moving Angela out to Colorado. We had a wonderful time. Without giving away too many details, here is the recap.
Day 1 news fit to print (with photos):
Emeryville, CA to Sacramento, CA (1 hour 48 minutes and super fun!).
Packed the car and started driving...Here are the key players that were in the car. Clockwise from left; Angela, Matrix, Maltese Kat, Shelby, Claudine and Ella. Our first stop was in Verdi, NV where we gassed up, let the dogs run and ate fish sandwiches at Jack in the Box. We decided we would gamble at all the stops in NV. We won $8.25 on a dollar at this place. We didn't even know what we were doing, which made it more fun.We stopped for the night in Elko, NV. It is a small mining town with lots of vintage motels and casinos. It seemed like a destination spot for some folks - gold miners? We stayed at the High Desert Inn, the dogs were pooped, we all slept really well that night.

Day 2
Morning in Elko, NV - we drove around, took some photos and asked a woman on the street where the best breakfast in town is (Rachael Ray style). We found our way to The Coffee Mug, and it was pretty darn good. Luckily, no dietary rules apply when you are on a road trip - so we went all out.

We left Elko at about Noon or so and headed to Salt Lake City. We fueled up and played some slots once more before heading over the Great Salt Desert. Our stop was in West Wendover, NV, we were welcomed to town by Wendover Will. He was waving us down to the Rainbow Casino. Since we were traveling with an old mayonnaise jar full of change, Ang decided to take it into the casino and cash it out. When we walked into the casino, Angela was in front of me and all I could see over her shoulder was mirrors and neon - I was dieing laughing, I couldn't even talk. I grabbed her and pulled her back into the vestibule before we made our entrance. We had a really good laugh and then upon entering we decided it was best to take a couple photos of the place - WRONG. The manager came over to us within like 30 seconds and told us that we couldn't take photos, etc. first reason was the Mormons wouldn't want to be photographed in there (then why are they in there in the first place?) and second, no photos in casinos period. Who knew? So, I deleted the photos in front of him and we went and cashed out the change. We played with $10 and made $17 and change. Again, we had no idea what we were doing. After the casino, we drove across the Great Salt Desert - a giant long straight away with constant mirages in front of you. No services, just vast amounts of nothingness. We arrived in Salt Lake City, UT late in the afternoon. We checked into the old Peery Hotel downtown. It was a really nice old hotel. Our room was pretty small compared to the two beds we had the night before. We had a full size bed for the 5 of us! Ha ha! The animals were going to have to sleep on the floor this time. We unloaded the car and the dogs and got everything in the room. Now for operation Claudine. The hotel did not know we had a cat with us. I think people are scared a cat is going to make a mess, spray (boy cats) or pee all over. Not our traveling champ. Since we had to go through the lobby of the hotel we decided to put Claudine in my little backpack. In she went and right as I approached the door of the hotel her little head came right out of the backpack. She had pushed her nose between the tiny space where the two zippers met and decided to see what in the heck was going on. I turned around so fast and was laughing so hard as I shoved her back in and zipped her back up. We got to the room and set up her little potty box and she acted like she owned the place, like the night before at the other hotel. We had some places checked off of our AAA book that we wanted to check out so we took the dogs for an urban hike to Temple Square (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) to check out the temple, tabernacle, etc. When we approached the square and walked through the gates we got stopped and were told we could not bring the dogs in unless we could carry them in. Seriously? They were on leashes and are so well behaved. So weird. So, we walked around outside. The offices of LDS have some beautiful gardens with millions of tulips and daffodils. It was beautiful.
After we got banned from the square - ha ha, we walked down to the The Cathedral of the Madeleine. More our speed, Catholic, open like the churches in Europe and they let us walk in and check it out. I went in first and attempted to take photos, but like in Malta, I didn't want to use the flash. So, my photos are not that great. But believe me, it was INCREDIBLE. Click on the link to check it out (Mom, that means, click on the name of the church above so you can see the photos). Here are some that I took...
After our walk around town we went back to the hotel before going to dinner at the Red Rocks Brewing Company. Our meals were terrific - so were the cocktails!
I had a smoked trout sandwich on pumpernickel with red onion, tomato, cucumber and dill cream cheese on the side I got carrot chips which were raw carrots sliced waffle style on a mandolin (very thin) with ranch dressing to dip in. Angela got eggplant Parmesan, spaghetti noodles with olive oil and cheese and garlic bread! Oh, did I mention we started the meal with calamari? Good thing we had to walk back to the hotel. This is what we found when we got back to our room. Look at Claudine's glowing eyes in the background on the chair!

Day 3
We had a nice night sleep and headed out at 9:30 AM for the long haul to CO. We changed our route due to a sign we saw on the 80 in Utah stating that the 80 was closed in part of Wyoming due to snow. We decided to drive down to the 70 and enter CO from the west side and we were so glad that we did, it was gorgeous! We went through so many mountains, it was incredible. Before we left Utah, we stopped in Price at a place called Big Moe's for lunch. It was like we were eating in someones small bakery. They had all kinds of home made baked goods and tables set up inside to eat at. We split some rings and each had sandwiches on home made bread that were deelish. We rook the dogs for a little walk and got back on the road.
We stopped at about 10,000 feet at a Starbucks to get some coffee for the remainder of the ride. The ride was just breathtaking. I don't know how to describe it. We saw long horned sheep, elk and buffalo. It was hard to take photos in the car, but we did the best we could. It was fun to see the dogs playing the snow when we stopped. Ella loved it more than Shelby which was unusual, Ang said that Shelby usually loves it. I think they were ready to settle for a while and just wanted to get to Angela's Mom's house. We arrived in Thornton at about 6:30 PM. Cheryl (Angela's Mom) and Bobby (her husband) were outside with Frankie waiting for us. We unloaded the car, animals, etc. and set up in the basement. Cheryl had made spaghetti and home made sauce, salad and garlic bread which was so yummy. We were so tired and it was starting to set in that I had to leave the next day and leave my best friend there. I was sad, but held it in until the next day. We had a good sleep that night and so did the animals however, I think Ella was sad that I was leaving - look at her...Day 4
Sunday, woke up, took the dogs out, hung out with Frankie before leaving for the airport. I had a good cry before we left, I didn't want to make a scene at the airport - too much of an audience there. I am still sad that my friend is not here. But I know she is a phone call away and I can get her anytime I need to. I will miss Frankie growing up before my eyes like he has over the last year.
My flight was uneventful, I slept the entire time. When I arrived in San Francisco, our tradition continued where Tim and I go to Celia's for a Mexican dinner. I was happy to see Tim and I think he was happy to have me back at home. After all, I am the entertainment.
It was a wonderful trip that I will never forget. We laughed so hard at times, it was a great release for me. The timing was perfect, a nice escape from the adoption stuff going on in my life. We talked about it, but not too much. It was a conscious effort on my part, I needed a break.
Angela, I love you so much! You are a sister to me, you know that. I will miss you so much but I know distance will not change our friendship. I cant wait to see you in a few months.

And the walls came tumbling down...

I have been trying to get unburied from all of the emotional rubble that has fallen on me in the last few days. Today was the first day I started feeling back to normal, however I feel like I have lost a part of me in all of this. I know Tim and I are going to be parents one day, its just hard to think that is possible with all the crap that is going on with Vietnam adoptions right now. My heart goes out to everyone involved in this and to all of the children that need families. The media has taken this story and run with it like always without telling every side. Anyway, enough about that, I have an adoption blog to talk about all of that on. Just really heavy on my mind and I am literally going to be on pins and needles until September 1st. If we don't have our referral by then, we need to make some decisions about how to move forward (ugh, just typing that makes me cry).
I will make a normal post later.

Stunned...

I am currently at a loss for words and can't update at this time. I feel like my entire weekend was a blur since I got hit with an adoption update on Friday.
More on my Operation Olive blog about our adoption.

No, you are not seeing things

I made a very slight change to the set up of my blog - I widened the columns a bit and made the font one point larger. I noticed that some of my things (you tube posts and others) were getting cut off (how rude!). So fascinating changing the HTML code and have it actually work!

Oakland's Chinatown

Went to Oakland's Chinatown today in search of the ever elusive Foo Dogs (Fu?) for my bosses office. I know, it sounds crazy, but our entire office is getting a Feng Shui face lift to shift the energy in there. Some of it makes sense, like the placement of furniture in the room (no backs to the door, etc.), but the hanging crystals, wind chimes and mirrors used to move energy in a different way kill me sometimes. I guess everyone has their thing and we are in Northern California. I guess I am still a bit small town when it comes to those things.
Anyway, Chinatown was cool, but no dogs.

One of my Favorite Kitchen Tools!

Have I ever mentioned that I have a couple favorite kitchen tools?
Here is one - I will profile her in this posting (she doesn't like the share the spotlight).
You can find one for super cheap at any Asian Market (there are a million here). She works for everything from straining pasta to rinsing a handful of berries.
They come in many different sizes, mine is about the size of both of my hands together. I figure I can't hold more than a handful and she shouldn't have to either. They are also available with a brass basket, but I prefer the silver color.
PS - Got the lovely strawberries at Costco this weekend, grown in the U.S.A!

Saturday

What a nice Saturday I had.
It all started with the cutest doughnut ever - thanks Tim!
After my sugary start to the day I just hung out. It was so nice to have a day to myself, no plans, nothing to do. Well, I take that back, my place is a wreck, but I wanted to relax, not clean and work around the house. So I watched TV, read magazines and had some fun with Tim at home. Hope you all had a mellow Saturday as well.

The Pope

Just thought I would share this, I thought it was a great speech.
I heard it live on the radio and just knew it would make it to You Tube.
Enjoy.

The Tortoise and the Hare

Just a reminder of a fable we all hear as kids - and a reminder, Life is Not a Contest!
Once upon a time a hare saw a tortoise walking slowly along and began to laugh and mock him. The tortoise challenged the hare to a race and the hare, thinking himself the fastest animal around, accepted. They agreed on a route and started off the race. The hare shot ahead and ran briskly for some time. Then seeing that he was far ahead of the tortoise, he thought he'd sit under a tree for some time and relax before continuing the race.
He sat under the tree and soon fell asleep. The tortoise, plodding on, overtook him and finished the race. The hare woke up and realized that he had lost the race.
The moral, stated at the end of the fable, is, "Slow and steady wins the race."

Having Fun and Taking Care of Business

Busy weekend - had a lot of fun and got to knock some things off my 101/1001 list at the same time. We went to Sacramento for a garage sale at the Asch house, it was also Angela's birthday so I brought some goodies with us.
Friday night I baked these lemon pound cakes to take to Sacramento with us on Saturday. Super easy and really moist and yummy.
I also have to share my first major baking disaster, while making these red velvet cupcakes. Everything was going great, I mistakenly filled the cupcake papers a little too full so when they started to bake, they puffed up and spread out a little on the muffin tin. I thought, no problem, they will just have little hats on when they are done. I think they would have been OK, but I let them cool too long in the pan and the overflow tops stuck to the pan and wouldn't budge! I tried to run a knife under their edges and nothing, so, I thought I will cut around the tops completely and cover the rough edges with frosting, no go, it didn't work. I was so upset that after prying 4 of them out of the pan, that were delicious and perfect - except for the messy tops, I threw the entire pan of them away. I generally don't have too many of these episodes, so I had to laugh. I had already made the cream cheese frosting too! Good thing I had baked some of the batter in a couple ramekins and those were fine, so I made a mini Birthday cake out of one for Angela, so she had a little something special for the day. The pound cakes were just not good enough for me to give to her for her Birthday.

Saturday, we work up at 6 AM, packed the car with stuff to sell and hit the road to get to Sacramento. We had a nice drive, once we got out of the city, construction on the bay bridge held us up a little bit. We got there and set up our stuff to sell. I had a couple boxes of things to unload, but am also going to join our neighborhood sale in August, so I kept all my books here until then. We did pretty good, we made enough to fill the tank with gas this week, which is great! Did I mention the heat? It was super hot too, we packed up everything around 1:00 and moved to the backyard for the rest of the day. Frankie is getting so big, when we went to CO in February, he was starting to cut teeth and now he has 6! He is such a sweet baby, we had fun together taking photos while he was on my lap and then he would look at them and squeal! What did we do before digital cameras? We hung out and enjoyed the sun and had a BBQ dinner, it was incredible! It reminded me of Birthday's at my parent's house. It also made me sad, because, I am not sure if I mentioned it before, but, maybe it is because I don't want to deal with it, but, Angela, Brian and Frankie are moving in three weeks to Colorado. My one friend here with a baby, my friend that I have had the longest out here (we met before I was married), she is literally like a sister to me and she is moving. Ugh, I honestly, don't want to talk about it. Call it denial, that is fine, I can deal with that. I am sure I will approach the subject at another time about how much this girl means to me. We had such a nice day. We left when it was time for Frankie's bath time as to keep him on schedule. We drove home listening to a Dead show from 1991, which was cool. It was hot so we had the windows open the entire way, I loved it! I love driving and listening to music. Which I should also mention, I am driving to CO with Angela and her 2 dogs and 2 cats the first weekend in May. Her husband is driving with his friend and her Mom is coming to get the baby and fly with him. It should be fun, I am looking forward to it actually, can you tell how bad I want a vacation?

Sunday, slept until about 9:45 am - watched the Lifetime movie I taped from Saturday night and made a lemon meringue pie while Tim was out playing tennis. We just had a nice spaghetti dinner (Tim's favorite) and are just hanging out at home.I have an OK week ahead of me, not too much going on, which is nice.
Hope you all had a nice weekend and have a wonderful week.

Two Purple Cows and a Beautiful Weekend

This weekend was so nice and sunny (at least in Bernal it was) - sorry Sunset district. This photo was taken from the staircase across from my flat.

Most of the day Saturday was consumed with cleaning out the storage in the basement and gathering items for a garage sale we are going to have with friends in Sacramento next month.

I found a lot of stuff I had not seen in a long time. It was sort of fun. I wish I could have spent more time down there - there is no light so I have to wear a headlamp and since I have bad allergies, I have to wear a mask as well. As you can imagine, my getup was pretty impressive. I don't know how Tim kept his hands off of me. I have a nice pile of things to sell going in my hallway now and I am excited to unearth more as I clean my place out in search of things to get rid of.

Sunday morning I got up and made waffles - I wrote my own recipe and I have to say, they were pretty darn good. The recipe made 6 so I have two in the freezer for another day - I think we may heat them up and make hot fudge sundaes over them later this week - yummm! I took my time easing into the day which was a nice change as apposed to getting out the door like a shot gun as I do during the week. I went to Debbie's house in the afternoon to hang out and craft while we watched a movie - my favorite afternoon of them all. So, we watched Chicken Run and I worked on embroidery while Debbie knit. It was nice to get out of the city for a break and hang out in an actual house without loud neighbors upstairs walking around in their loud shoes (big problem, growing bigger each day). At about 5:30 I headed back to the city and was craving pesto so I made a pasta dish with orecchiette pasta, pesto, artichoke hearts, asparagus and sweet peas topped with toasted pine nuts and freshly grated Parmesan. For dessert, a blast from the past....Purple Cows! Tim had never had one, so I had to make them.
All in all, it was a very nice weekend. Got a lot of stuff done that I have been thinking about for a while, which was nice.
Have a great week!
I will try to update more often this week.

Friday at last!

Phew, yes it is Friday and I am so happy. I can't wait to sleep in tomorrow morning!
It has been a nice busy week that has completely flown by.
I had something going on each night with the exception of Monday.
Here is a little run down:
Tuesday - met K. for dinner at Cafe Gratitude. It was so nice to catch up and have a nice wholesome meal, I think most of you know from past posts how much I love that place.
Wednesday - went to dinner after work with Tim and then to the ballet! We went and saw a tribute to Jerome Robbins - who I actually took class from when I was a teen. He was not the nicest man in the world, but he was a creative genius! This is what we saw:
Fancy Free
Composer: Leonard Bernstein
Choreography: Jerome Robbins

In the Night
Composer: Frédéric Chopin
Choreography: Jerome Robbins

West Side Story Suite—NEW!San Francisco Ballet Premiere
Composer: Leonard Bernstein
Choreography: Jerome Robbins
It was a great night! Tim really likes West Side Story so I thought he would enjoy it and he did. It was really cool to see one of the best ballet companies in the world (in my opinion) sing, dance and act - yes, some of them sang. It is hard to be a triple threat, singer, dancer and actor and they did a wonderful job. I applaud the members of the company who sang, because dance sometimes can be very in your head, they don't have to speak and all is expressed through movement which is awesome but to get them to sing as well - BRAVO! It was an incredible night. I love ballet so much and just get lost in the entire thing when I go and see it. It carries me to another place - such a nice midweek escape.
Thursday night I worked at the CG. We worked on image transfers. We are trying to create a new class there, it was super fun and frustrating at the same time trying to get some of the techniques to work.
Today, after work, I am meeting some old co-workers of mine for a beer and a bite before the weekend starts.
Tomorrow, sleep in, I can't wait to sink into my pillow tonight and just give in sweet sleep. I have ballet from 3-5 so I can't sleep in too long - I need to get up and move around a little before class or I will be totally screwed.
Today is Good Friday - I wish I was in Malta...here is a glimpse at a Good Friday procession there today.

Bye-Bye Weekend

Sunday night is here already - it snuck up way too fast as usual.
Here is a little recap...
Friday night we just stayed home and took it easy, which was nice since I had a busy week. I had to work on Thursday night and did a freelance project for a friend of mine (which was awesome). I am trying to put myself out there a little more and get some side work, which I hope comes in as it did last week.
Saturday, I slept in until 9:30 (sweet) and then got some stuff done around the house before going to ballet.
Ballet class on Saturday was great and challenging. Now that everything from my past has come back into my memory, it is all about fine tuning things, which can be a bit frustrating. We did a lot of jumping at the end of class, which was fun and exhilarating - I made it through an entire jump combination in center without getting winded. We are getting ready for turns, etc. This month is going to be pretty cool since I have ballet every Saturday instead of every other like it has been. I think next month I am going to start other classes during the week in addition to the weekend class. I am so grateful for Jadin, taking the time to refresh my memory and help get me back into something I love so much. It feeds my soul like no other type of exercise. I love yoga, but it does not feed me and it is not as active as ballet (or creative).
Today, I slept until about 11:30, which was awesome. Tim played tennis this morning, so it was nice and quiet in the house. Our place is so tiny that when one person is up, it is hard to sleep because you can hear every little thing. When Tim got home, he made some great salads for lunch, I did some laundry and we just hung out. It was so nice to take it easy this weekend, I have a busy week, I have something going on every night except for tomorrow. The week should go by pretty quickly I think.
Hope everyone had a nice weekend!

Needle Felting Progress

Needle felting continued at lunch today. I broke 2 needles though - note to self, next time don't make the body so dense, I think that is why the needles broke inside of Harry the Hedgehog. I need to sew the eyes on him tomorrow or Saturday and he will be all set.
Check him out...

Needle Felting!

Wendy bought me a fun needle felting kit, which helps me to knock one more thing off of my 101/1001 list (Learn a New Craft). So today on our lunch break, we learned to felt.
This is the kit she bought me (above) and below are some photos of my progress.
Progress will continue as lunch breaks allow. I will keep you all updated, but so far, I love the felting!

Sunny Saturday in the City

Saturday, me, Angela, Robin and Wendy all met for lunch and drinks in the Mission. Our original plan fell through so we went to Medjool and sat on the roof and ate and drank for a couple hours. The weather could not have been better. Seriously, I got some sun for the second time this week, what was fantastic. At the tail end of lunch, the boys (Kenny and Tim) joined us. Afterwards we went back to my hood and had dessert. What a lovely day I got to have with my ladies (and boys).

Guilty Pleasure

OK, so I have a guilty pleasure, actually a couple.
  1. America's Next Top Model
  2. The Hills

So, I am happy to report, to any other Hills watchers, that the continuation of Season 3 starts on March 24th and it looks juicy.

To all the naysayers, come on, you know you have a little reality TV favorite and if you don't..."your fired!"

101/1001 Project

OK, so I was inspired by Karen Beth to join the 101 things in 1001 days project. It took me a while to get my list together but between my brain and looking at a couple other lists, I came up with mine. Although some things may seem a little lame, they mean something to me. They are all things that I have wanted to do for myself or with Tim and I am happy with the list. I'll cross things out as I get things done.

Here is some information on the project:

Taken from the Triplux: 101 Things in 1,001 Days — Guidelines for participation:

Creating your own 1001 Day Project
The Mission:Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.
The Criteria:Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Why 1001 Days? Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple goals such as new year’s resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

Some common goal setting tips:
1. Be decisive. Know exactly what you want, why you want it, and how you plan to achieve it.
2. Stay Focused. Any goal requires sustained focus from beginning to end. Constantly evaluate your progress.
3. Welcome Failure. Frequently, very little is learned from a venture that did not experience failure in some form. Failure presents the opportunity to learn and makes the success more worthy.
4. Write down your goals. It clarifies your thinking and reinforces your commitment.
5. Keep your goals in sight. Review them frequently, and ensure that they are always at the forefront of your thinking.
There is also a database of other bloggers who are doing this exercise. You can see the list that are registered there and perhaps meet some fun new blog friends!

Beautiful

I really needed to see this today...sometimes I am way too lazy and I know I could do so much more.

Nice Weekend

Ahhh, I love Sunday's. I slept in and am still in my pajama's at 3:20 PM!
Yesterday, I had a lazy day as well, slept until 11 AM, eased into the day, did some stretching, watched the Food Network and got ready for ballet. I had class from 3-5, we started at about 2:45 though and ended at 5:20. Time totally flies when you are having fun. We worked really hard and I felt super good afterwards. I always feel a great sense of accomplishment when class is over. It kicks my ass, but I love it. My calves are a little sore today as a reminder of what we did in class.
After class Tim and I went to get some dinner. We have limited our dinners out to payday weekends only so we enjoyed every second of it. After dinner we went to Target to get some household items we were running out of. We decided to get some CFL bulbs as well since they were on sale for a whopping $2 a piece. Funny because I was just telling Wendy yesterday that I got them for $2.89 a couple weeks ago. They take a little while to get used to and give off a different light than the regular incandescent bulbs, but they are supposed to save energy, lower your bills and help decrease waste. One bulb lasts 5 years, you can get them that last 10 years as well. I urge you to try swapping at least one of your overhead bulbs to a CFL, check it out and see things in a new light.

Francisco!

I know, this is super nutty, but this is my lemon I have named, Francisco. Those of you who were there, you know why I named him Francisco, because it is fun to say!
Anyway, the lemon tree at the Garrison house was abundant a couple weeks back and when this little guy was spotted, it had to be mine! I got to pick it with the long picking device with the basket at the end. Check him out!
I am a little apprehensive about cutting him up, but when I do, I will take photos of what he looks like on the inside.

Date Night

Wednesday night I took myself out on a date, which I try to do a few times a year. It is basically a time for me to check in with myself, reignite my independent spirit and get out and do something fun to recharge my batteries. In the past these outings have included dinner and a movie, musical performances, museum and lunch, etc. This time I went to the ballet. For those who know me or have been a reader for a while, know that I love ballet and spend a part of my life dancing and am now taking ballet class again as an adult which is TEN times harder than when I was a teen. Not because it is physically hard, it is mentally hard to try to go back to something that you used to do so effortlessly. My body doesn't move the way it used to and doesn't want to defy gravity as it once did (not to mention I am about 2 times the size as I used to be) my mind wants my body to do it though, and that is what is most important and helps me to keep going. So, back to my date. I left work at 4:45 PM in order to get to the free lecture that takes place on Wednesday's at the Herbst Theatre next door War Memorial Theatre where the ballet takes place. The Pointes of View lecture series is really cool, free to the public and the topic is in sync with what program the ballet is performing so this time the topic was Giselle (my all time favorite ballet). I have seen Giselle more times than I can count on my fingers and have read about it, seen movies about it and even memorized the movements with the music, but it was so cool to see two current principle dancers from SF Ballet and one former principle talk about their roles as Giselle and Myrtha. They showed video clips, slides and spoke about the difference in roles and also technique and what they do to prepare for the role. It was a real treat to be able to see that. The lecture ended at 7:10 PM and I then made my way over to the theatre next door to use the ladies room, eat my bagel and get ready for the ballet to begin. I was super excited because I checked the casting the day before and my good fortune was that my all time favorite, light as air, principle dancer Yuan Yuan Tan (above left) was playing Giselle, how lucky! I took my seat (which was fabulous, 6 rows from the front and in the center) and as soon as the lights went down I was transported to a dream world in the Renaissance times and was watching the innocent girl with the weak heart fall in love but then be deceived and fall to her death. I was completely memorized by Giselle and relished each movement as if I were enjoying cotton candy and its sweetness slowly melted away in my mouth. Before I knew it the first act was over. I walked outside during the intermission, got a breath of fresh air and got back to my seat for the second act. I was told by my current ballet instructor, the lovely and talented, Jadin, to watch the arms and elbows - that is my weak spot in the studio. My shoulder tend to ride up a little and I let my hands move too much. In the second act, Giselle comes back as a ghost and dances with the man who she loved but betrayed her. The leader of the dead girls who have also died of weak hearts is Myrtha. The role was played by a guest principle this year with the ballet, Sofiane Sylve (above right), who was wonderful. The Myrtha role demands a good technician and she did not disappoint. It was a wonderful night at the ballet. It was a great date but in the same breath, it was nice to come home and cuddle with Tim on the couch.

Sunday in Colorado

Sunday was a more mellow day than Saturday.
Angela made blueberry pancakes for breakfast and we took it pretty slow in the morning.
Around 11 we decided to check out Sheplers - where I got my sweet cowboy boots online. They have stores in Colorado. I saw the sign for the store on Saturday when we were running around and had a fit, we HAD to go there.
Here are some photos:

I didn't get the pink boots, I wanted them and they were my size, but I showed restraint with the help of Angela.

After Sheplers we went to Whole Foods Market for lunch.

Sunday evening we had dinner at a HUGE Italian Buffet, it was incredible. I thought everything was big in Texas, I may have been wrong, I think everything might be a little bit bigger in Colorado.
